No. 4 Duke earns the honor after a pair of ACC wins, highlighted by a 90-60 demolition of the No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (21-4). The Blue Devils avenged their 77-73 upset loss at Notre Dame in late January. ACC Rookie of the Week, freshman Justise Winslow, led the blowout win with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
“You know when you go through one like that I always look at the stat sheet to make sure it only counted one loss,” Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said post game. “Because that was a thorough beating. They were fabulous. They played great.”
The Blue Devils also notched a 72-66 victory against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (10-12). Winslow had a double-double versus the Jackets as well, tallying 15 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman center Jahlil Okafor was a large factor in both wins as he has been all season for Duke. With player of the year nominations looming, Okafor is averaging 18 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.
The Virginia Cavaliers (22-1) are the runner-up for Team of the Week. The Cavaliers reeled off two victories over ranked opponents, 75-64 at the No. 12 North Carolina Tar Heels (18-6) and 52-47 against the No. 9 Louisville Cardinals (19-4).
