The Cavaliers stingy defense held the Crimson to just one field goal in the first half and 16 percent shooting for the game. The offense was on the mark as well and fluid in finding the open man.
“Early on we were right defensively and making some shots and that was a bad obviously recipe for Harvard,” Virginia coach Tony Bennett said. “But I like that we challenged them to not give Harvard anything easy and then the few easy ones they got, they struggled with.”
Versus Harvard, junior center Mike Tobey scored a season-high 15 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. The 7-footer Tobey brings physicality to the game for Virginia. He averaged 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in the two games of this week's voting.
Junior guards Justin Anderson and Malcolm Brogdon led Virginia in scoring against Cleveland State with 16 points each. Tobey totaled six points, albeit in 16 minutes of play.
The North Carolina Tar Heels are this week's runner-up. The Tar Heels garnered wins at the UNC Greensboro Spartans 79-56 and a home victory against the Ohio State Buckeyes 82-74.
