The Yellow Jackets Harrison Butker booted a career-long 53-yard field goal on the final play of regulation to send the game into overtime. The clutch field goal followed a touchdown scored by the Bulldogs with just 18 seconds left on a 3-yard pass by Hutson Matson to Malcolm Mitchell.
In overtime, Georgia Tech tailback Zach Laskey ran for a touchdown and cornerback D.J. White intercepted the ball to close out the win.
The Ramblin Wreck tallied almost 400 rushing yards. Georgia Tech has a 12-2 record in the last 14 games when rushing over 300 yards and 37-9 in coach Paul Johnson’s era.
Laskey rushed for a career-high 140 yards and three touchdowns. Fellow senior Synjyn Days garnered 94 yards on the ground.
“We're always falling forward, we're always going to keep our feet moving to try to get the extra yards,” Days said. “We're definitely hard workers on and off the field, trying to be leaders.”
Earlier this week, Georgia Tech had seven student-athletes named to the All-ACC Team and the ACC Coach of the Year in Johnson as voted by ACSMA.
The Ramblin’ Wrecks win over the Bulldogs was part of a weekend that had the ACC sweeping the SEC 4-0.
“I think if I'm correct, the ACC teams have more wins against the power five conferences than any other league, and the next closest is probably the Pac-12,” said coach Johnson. “You know, it's a good league.”
The NC State Wolfpack is the runner-up for ACC Team of the Week. The Wolfpack had a 35-7 blowout win over rival North Carolina Tar Heels.
